Dialogue Drabble 5

“The last ones are gone for the night, thank goodness. I’m completely wiped.”

“Finally. I could go for a hot bath right about now.”

“Likewise. Though, I don’t feel quite as greasy as I usually do.”

“Maybe the impossible has happened and the clientele is getting better.”

“I’m not going to complain, though I was sure I’d see hell freeze over before that happened. Then again, the tips have been much better lately, that’s for sure.”

“Right? I might actually be able to pay off my rent this month.”

“Oh come on, you aren’t that hard up.Besides, I happen to know you’ve got yourself a handful of men just waiting to pay off that rent for you on the side.”

“I don’t like doing that. You know what happens when you start showing too much favor. I don’t want a hand round my throat because some john gets crazy jealous.”

“I’m surprised. I thought you of all people would be able to handle that. A few well placed lies usually keeps the johns in line. They want to believe them.”

“It might surprise you, but sometimes it’s more fun to play with the truth.”

“Oh come on honey, I know you better than that.Everything you say is a lie.”

“Not everything. Just… most things. Besides, it’s not like you can talk, my dear. As I seem to remember, one of your johns thinks you’re a baron’s daughter in hiding.”

“That was a good one, wasn’t it? He pays me very well.”

“I can imagine he does. Just be careful. I rather like you, you know.”

“I know. And with you, I even hope you’re telling the truth.”

Dialogue Drabble 4

“So, uh… are you excited for tonight?”

“Should I be?”

“Well, yeah, I’d think so. I mean, I would have thought, you know- it is the first time we’re all doing something together planetside.”

“It’s just dinner. It’s not really all that different from what we do here.”

“I guess, when you put it that way. But we do get to dress up all fancy. Just wait until you see Robin’s new dress. She looks amazing in it.”

“I don’t doubt it. To me she always looks amazing.”

“Oh yeah! She does to me too. I mean, I certainly don’t think she has to get all dressed up for me to think she looks good. She always looks goo-”

“I get it.”

“Ah,  yes, o-of course you do.”

“By the way, I will be dancing with my daughter tonight, at some point. Probably at several points.”

“I wouldn’t think of standing in your way.”

“Of course you wouldn’t. Maybe, if you’re lucky, Crescent will take pity on you and agree to a dance or two. I’d hate to think of you sitting there all alone.”

“I don’t know that… Well,  I guess if he asks me, I wouldn’t say no.”

“Good. Just don’t step on his toes. He hates that.”

Dialogue Drabble 3

“Who was he?”

“That’s a stupid question. It doesn’t matter who he was. Not anymore. We’re finished. We move on.”

“I- I was just curious.”

“Curiosity is good, but it doesn’t excuse what should be obvious.”

“I’ll remember.”

“Good. Who they are at the beginning matters. Their potential is how you chose your targets. Knowing who they are helps you cover your tracks later.”

“Never leave anything behind.”

“That’s right, very good. And what else don’t we do?”

“We don’t- we don’t get pers’nly investigative.”

Personally invested. Never forget that. This wasn’t personal. You must never let it get personal, you understand?”

“Yes, mother, I understand.”

“Good. Now shift it. The fence is waiting.”

Dialouge Drabble 2

“I hate to admit it, but I think you were right.”

“Oh? What about, Sunshine?”

“Don’t play innocent, Daddy. You know what I’m talking about. Mikha. He spent all morning asking me about you.”

“What about?”

“What does your father do in his spare time? Where did your father go to school? Where did he learn how to fight like that?”

“I did warn you.”

“I know! I know. But… I really liked this one. He ran the laps and everything.”

“I obviously didn’t make him run enough.”

“I think you should make him run them until his legs fall off.”

“Don’t worry, Sunshine. He’ll get what’s coming to him.”

“Thanks, Daddy. You’re the best.”

Dialouge Drabble 1

“Are you hurt?”

“I’m fine. I’ve had far worse than this before. It’s nothing.”

“Are you sure? It’ll only take me a moment t-”

“I told you already you don’t have to fuss over me! Go and check on Domerin. I think he needs your skills more than I do.”

“I saw to him already. He sent me to you. Relax, you’re not doing yourself any favors. Now, keep still.”

Fine, but you’re wasting your time. Aren’t there people who need your magic more?”

“Doubtless, but Domerin wanted me to see to you first, for all the good that’s doing us.”

“Look, I’m sorry. We’re all on edge right now. He needs you for something, and he needs you at your best. Go see him when I’m finished.”

“You should have said that in the first place.”
